Day Fifteen: Matthew 8:14-34, Mark 4-5

A lot of the reading for day fifteen are the same stories and parables as day fourteen. There are a few points that were not covered which will be spoken of but the notes will be a little shorter then usual since we have read and discussed most of whats going on in this reading. What I would like to point out in the last part of Matthew 8 is what it costs to follow and become a disciple of Jesus. Not everyone Jesus called went easily with out dispute. Jesus calls his disciples to drop everything to follow him, not looking back at what they had to take care of first or any other excuse. He came to sacrifice his life for us the least we can do is drop what we are doing to follow him and prepare for heaven. Jesus points out that even foxes and birds have a place to rest yet when he came into the world he did not and does not since he travels and teaches and no where on earth is his bed or home even.
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."20 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." 21 Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."22 But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
We have another parable that we have not heard yet. The growing seed can refer to a good seed or a bad one. Either way it grows and what it produces at the time of harvest is what will either condemn or bless us. Everyday we learn and grow as a spiritual being sowing seeds in all we do and say therefore we have to be cautious what we are feeding the seeds and making sure they are not being crushed, scorched, smothered, withered etc. Whether we know it or not when the seeds are planted they are either going to grow or they are not. I know how I am with physical plants, I am grateful I am better with the spiritual seeds, well I hope so that is. We do not know how or why the seeds grow or not but if they are fruitful then they will sprout just like the other similar seeds. Just because we can not see something growing with our eyes we still know that it is because we see the overall growth and then harvest comes.

The Parable of the Growing Seed

26 He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain--first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."

Since the remainder of the reading would be repetitive to cover since day fourteen also had the rest of the stories we will stop there. I guess it is always nice to have a short reading isn't it? Thank you for reading. Peace and Love.
